This week I'm sharing with you a quilt that I quilted for Monette in Kamloops B.C.  I really liked the layout of this quilt and I thought that incorporating some simple quilting in a fun way would let the fabrics shine as the focus of the quilt.

I always start my quilting process with a PLAN, and recently I have begun charging for this, it takes a lot of time to come up with a plan and to create a cohesive design that helps elevate a quilt.  I have a mini course available for purchase that explains my process, but I am actually updating it this Spring/Summer so I'll let you know when it's nice and updated (with my new editing skills 😆).

So here are some of the sketches that I came up with:

I don't love stitching on the faces of the animals but I thought that with a small enough cross-hatch, it would kinda disappear, I wanted to do more than just echo around the shape of the animals. So this is my idea.

There was a large portion of the quilt that was a bit of scrappy piecework and I decided to put in a wandering feather that mimicked a climbing vine in my mind.  So the feather I chose is a spined traditional bump back feather.  I could have done more of a feather filler design but I wasn't worried about thread build-up as Monette likes dense quilting and the backing fabric was a nice fireside fabric that really maintains its soft pliable texture even when quilted densely.   This helped to balance all of the details I was putting into the panel blocks.  When making a plan it's about balance and budget.

So what do you think?  Was quilting the faces a mistake?  I think it turned out good, but I like hearing other people's thoughts.  Also, note the rope design in the orange part of the quilt.   Ugh, this design is definitely something I am still working on, but I am getting better.  Looking at the photos, I think they look great, but my brain just cannot figure it out while I'm stitching.

I'm not going to point out any of the slip-ups, because I'm being nice to myself and believe this is the best way to grow ♥❤♥

I'm really happy with how this quilt came together!  Here are some photos of the back.  I love fireside backing, it shows off quilting so well!

Thanks for reading and watching.  I asked if anyone would be interested in a course the other week and most folks expressed more interest in a membership.  I'm not sure I want to do a membership, I'm going to give it a think. In the meantime, I did take one person's idea and started a "Buy Me a Coffee".  If you are finding any value in these posts or videos I would appreciate any support so I can keep making this free content.  Thanks 😄

I will also be travelling to Prince George, BC to present, hosted by The Willow Basket Quilt Shoppe.  If you're in the area I would love to meet you, also Prince George is my hometown so I'm excited to go back to the old stomping ground on the Hart.  I'll be doing 2 presentations and a trunk show.  I think you can purchase tickets for each event separately, or all three in a single ticket.  Hope to see you there.
