Frames and Fillers Final Details

This is the last video of this series.  I have enjoyed this immensely but it's time to slow down and pit in for some serious winter stitchery.  Thanks so much for coming along with me.

Quilt Top Instructions

I decided to show you what I decided to do in the coloured areas and the edging negative space.  I filled the negative space with some simple frames and fillers that I knew well and could execute quickly.

I did my frames at 1/2" and 1" intervals and filled those spaces with blunt piano keys, matchstick and a big pearl chain.  Remember if you like this style of quilting you might want to check out my Modern Quilting with Rulers Online Course.  If you missed the trailer video you can find it here:

And if you want to learn in an in-person environment you can join Susan Smith, Bethanne Nemesh and myself on a Quilting Caribbean Cruise!

Here is the layout that I used for my quilt top, so you have a visual of what the entire quilt looks like, I did link the instructions for this top at the top of this blog post.

But as you can see I have two long zig-zag sections at the top and bottom of my quilt.  I filled the top one with an upside, downside alternating feather...

It's honestly easier to see in the video.  When I do feathers in these types of areas that come to a point or where I need to change direction I like to end with a pebble, it makes things look neat and tidy.

The bottom zig-zag was finished with a regular feather (I was just ready to be done!).

There are two types of coloured blocks in this quilt one has a red outside and one has a purple outside, I alternated them throughout the piecing and I stitched each of these blocks using a simple feather motif guided by the piecework.

Well, that's all folks.  17 weeks of Frames and Fillers has come to an end.  Please watch the last video, like, subscribe and leave me a comment letting me know what you want to see in the future!  I'm going back to my Winter schedule, which is posting every two weeks (unless I come up with some other ideas 😉).  If you want more content I do post more on social media, come follow on:
